Pokemon GO – How to Beat Arlo

Team GO Rocket has plagued the adventures of Pokemon GO trainers for a while, but it's only recently that they've become a true force to be reckoned with. Giovanni has arrived and he has henchmen ready to fight just to stop you from reaching him. These elite trainers have equally special teams of enhanced Pokémon. And if you ever want to take on the big boss, you'll have to defeat them all. But with an ever-changing and slightly random team, you'll need to know the best counters for each. To get started, here's how to beat Arlo in Pokemon GO.

How to Beat Arlo

We'll update this whenever the team changes, so check back if things have changed. The current article is accurate through January 2020, so keep reading to find out what Arlo's team will be made up of and the best counters for everyone. Like I said, her team can change often, but she also takes advantage of a powerful set of characters. Every encounter can be different, so you need to be tactical with your choices. Of course, if you lose or quit, you can try again with a new team, so expect to be cold the first time around before refining your counters afterwards.

Luckily, Arlo's first Pokemon is still the same: Draby. There are some solid counters to this, with the best being Tartard (Mud Shot and Ice Punch), Dragonite (Dragon Breath and Dragon Claw), Tyranitar (Smack Down and Crunch), and Gyarados (Dragon Breath and Crunch). The moves in brackets are the best moves for that particular battle. Any of these should get you through the first battle with Arlo, but going forward, you might want to focus on what works long term. In my experience, Tyranitar is best in the world, and even against some potential enemies coming into this fight.

After defeating Draby, you'll face Charizard, Blastoise, or Steelix. So here are counters for these guys…

Dracaufeu: Tyranocif (Smack Down et Crunch), Rhinastoc (Smack Down et Stone Edge), Altered forme Giratina (Shadow Claw et Ancient Power), Galeking (Smack Down et Stone Edge) et Kyogre (Waterfall et Surf)

Tortank: Tartard (Mud Shot and Ice Punch), Florizarre / Méganium (Vine Whip and Frenzy Plant) and Tengalice (Razor Leaf and Leaf Blade)

Steelix: Kyogre (Waterfall and Surf), Charizard (Fire Spin and Blast Burn), Minotaupe (Mud Slap and Earthquake), Garchomp (Mud Shot and Earthquake), and Groudon (Mud Shot and Earthquake)

Note that some of the first options are counters for elders or other Pokemon Arlo might use, so if you're entering without knowing its team, these are good choices. Now let's move on to the third character Arlo could use, which could be Dragonite, Scizor, or Drattak. Here's how to beat those with the best counters.

Dracolosse: Tyranocif (Smack Down et Crunch), Mammochon (Powder Snow et Avalanche), Rhinastoc (Smack Down et Stone Edge), Dialga (Dragon Breath et Iron Head / Draco Meteor), Melmetal (Thunder Shock et Rock Slide) et Métalosse (Bullet Punch et Meteor Mash)

Cizayox: Heatran (Fire Spin et Flamethrower), Dracaufeu (Fire Spin et Blast Burn), Braségali (Fire Spin et Blaze Kick et Blast Burn) et Sulfura (Fire Spin et Sky Attack)

Drattak: Mammochon (powder snow and avalanche), Dimoret (snarl and avalanche), Regice (Lock On and Blizzard), Dragonite (dragon's breath and dragon claw), modified form Giratina (dragon's breath and dragon claw), Mewtwo (psycho cut and Ice Beam) and Suicune (Ice Fang and Ice Beam)

Once the team is ready, just work on timing shields and charge attacks. Picking a disabled Pokémon as your first character and switching immediately at the start of battle can really help delay Arlo's attacks, so give it a try. Power up the lower counters you need and you'll get there with enough patience and luck. And that's how to beat Arlo in Pokemon GO.
