The tweet claims that the new Assassin's Creed, currently named Rift, will actually be called Assassin's Creed Mirage. Additionally, the gameplay will take place in Baghdad as previously suggested in July. Other key suggestions are that the game will release in the spring of 2023 and take a much more “back to basics” approach to gameplay. If true, it should come as a pleasant surprise to longtime fans of the franchise, some of whom have felt that Assassin's Creed's core gameplay components of stealth and assassination have wandered off on a tangent in recent years. years.

Again, caution is advised with any kind of insider claims, there may be some truth behind parts of the latest leak. The tweet has also since been acknowledged by industry reporter Jason Schreier, which may give some credence to some of the claims made in the news. Schreier says his source, "someone familiar" with the truth behind the case, has presumably confirmed that some parts of this new leak are accurate, but others are definitely not.

Someone familiar tells me that parts of this new Assassin's Creed leak are true (like the name and other things Bloomberg has already reported: Spring 23, Baghdad, back to AC bases) and other parts are not (“multiple cities to explore”) https://t.co/qmM6UZtKnG

Schreier previously shared information about the game's potential move to Baghdad, in response to rumors at the time that Assassin's Creed would be heading to an Aztec setting next. Shortly after, Jeff Grubb claimed that the series would move to Japan. Basically, it's all been very up in the air, but this new information seems to support Schreier's initial refutation of the Aztec theme.

Whether some of this information, if any of it, is actually true remains to be seen. However, it might not be long before we get some sort of confirmed update from Ubisoft on the actual direction of the upcoming game. future of the Assassin's Creed series at the upcoming Ubisoft Forward event on September 10. With that just around the corner, we might find out if there's any clout behind this potential Baghdad-based adventure called Mirage in a few weeks.
