Evolve certain Pokémon in Shiny Diamond and Shiny Pearl Pokémon, you will need a fire stone. Like in the original games, coming across these upgradable stones isn't as easy as walking into the department store in the area and buying unlimited amounts. To get your hands on a Firestone, you'll need a bit of know-how or a bit of old-fashioned luck.

How to find a fire stone

To secure not one, but two Fire Stones, you'll need the ability to surf by defeating Hearthome City's Gym Leader Fantina. Once you've earned your fifth badge, head back to Floaroma Town and to the bridge that crosses Route 205.

From there, use HM Surf to take the river west to Fuego Ironworks. The river has a few bends and follows a slightly odd path but eventually reaches a block where you want to exit to the grassy area to the north. Go up a bit and you should be able to see Fuego Ironworks above you.

Once you arrive at Les Forges, return to solid ground and enter the building. If you follow the moving puzzle around the building, you can get your hands on a Fire Stone in the northeast corner of the building and one while talking to Fuego near his oven. You can also hook the TM Flamethrower right next to the Furnace, which makes for a very interesting trip for the Fire-type on your team.

Another way to find a Fire Stone in the new Pokemon games is to mine Sparkling locations in the Great Underground. However, finding a Fire Stone through this method is much more random, and you're just as likely to find a different type of Evolution Stone or other treasures. So, make sure you've collected the two Fire Stones from Fuego Ironworks before working hard in the mines.
