Capcom's Resident Evil Showcase has just released some much needed updates on the Resident Evil 4 remake! Rumors of a Resident Evil 4 remake of the 2005 game of the same name were confirmed during Sony's June 2022 State of Play show. Like many classic horror titles from our early years, the game is remade using the delicate balance of upgrading for a modern artist while staying true to the original, but today we received a ton of new information. Let's dive!

First of all, the new gameplay footage was awesome! As Leon walks through a quiet, creepy forest full of strange crosses and barbed wire traps, he comes to a village and enters one of the houses. From the character's dialogue, "how far could he have gone?", we know he had to follow someone, but the house looks abandoned when Leon walks in and starts snooping around. Despite all the obvious creepy oddities, like the hanging bone decor and the noose just hanging on the kitchen wall, nothing seems to alarm him until he finds one of his escorts dead. Then things go up a notch or ten!

A man with his head completely horizontal attacks Leon, who then discovers that the whole town has gone mad. After seeing the second of his escorts being burned by the rest of the village, a chaotic scene of attackers dodging, firing a variety of guns, breaking holds, and leaping across rooftops erupts. RIP to the poor cow he set on fire as a diversion, and a villager with a chainsaw and a burlap sack over his head really needs to calm down. It was real chaos, but the most interesting thing was that most of the villagers didn't look like zombies. Other than that, the game looks awesome!

Thanks to the announcer, we know that in the Resident Evil 4 remake, while there are a few new additions in an attempt to modernize the story, some things are still the same. Research and an organized attache are key to staying alive and upgrading your weapons. The merchant is still a thing, and now you can buy items from him using the gems you collect as well.

The biggest news, however, was about purchasing the game. As you may have noticed, the remake will now include a PlayStation 4 version in addition to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC options. You can also upgrade the PlayStation 4 game to the PlayStation 5 digital edition for free. Two other editions are also worth considering.

The Deluxe Edition will be available for all platforms and will include some additional bonuses. Get a DLC pack with four additional costumes, two new weapons, a treasure map, in-game sunglasses, and the soundtrack.

But the physical Collector's Edition is also full of goodies. This edition will include everything from the Deluxe Edition plus a Leon figure as well as an art book, poster, and more. You even get a “box”. So that's cool!

For those who need a recap, Resident Evil 4's storyline is set six years after the biological disaster that took place in Raccoon City. A survivor named Leon Kennedy is tasked with rescuing the kidnapped daughter of the US President from an extremely creepy village. The showcase ended with a cinematic gameplay trailer that introduced us to doomed Ashley, the President's daughter, and Ada. We also get a feeling for the cult-like villagers with their evil leader that Leon will have to fight to succeed in his mission.
