Genshin Impact Hu Tao Character Guide

Genshin Impact Version 1.3 is around the corner, and one of the rumored characters that will debut with the update is the practical joker and the funeral home director Hu Tao. This 5-star young woman with pyro and pole weapon runs the day-to-day operations of Wangsheng Funeral Home in Liyue, and she wouldn't mind giving zombie Qiqi his last rites.

Keep in mind that Hu Tao is currently rumored to appear in Genshin Impact Version 1.3 alongside Xiao, and all information we have on her comes from Closed Beta leaks. We'll be sure to keep this guide up-to-date as we get closer to the 1.3 release in February.

Below is a full list of his attacks and abilities, passive talents, constellations, and finally all of his ascension and talent requirements. Since this information has not been officially confirmed at the time of publication (it is all from the closed beta), all of this may change between now and Hu Tao's debut. While she will continue to use Agnidus for ascension like the other Pyro characters, she and Xiao appear to be using a second, newer elemental material for their ascension: Juvenile Jade. This material will drop from a new world boss, Elder Geovishap.

Attacks and Abilities of Hu Tao

• Melee: Secret Spear of Wangsheng
  • Normal Attack: Perform up to 6 consecutive spear strikes.
  • Charged Attack: Consumes a certain amount of Stamina to lunge forward, dealing damage to opponents along the way.
  • Dive Attack: Dives from the air to strike the ground below, damaging opponents along the way and dealing area damage on impact.
• Elemental Skill: Guide to the Beyond
  • Hu Tao consumes a fixed portion of his HP to repel surrounding enemies, entering the Paramita Papilio State.
    • Increases Hu Tao's attack based on his max HP when entering this state. The attack bonus thus obtained cannot exceed 300% of Hu Tao's base attack.
    • Converts attack damage to Pyro damage, which cannot be negated by any other elemental infusion.
    • Charged attacks apply the Blood Blossom effect to enemies hit.
    • Increases Hu Tao's resistance to being interrupted.

    • Enemies affected by Blood Blossom will receive Pyro damage every 4 seconds. This damage is considered elemental skill damage.
    • Each enemy can only be affected by one Blood Blossom effect at a time, and its duration can only be refreshed by Hu Tao herself.
    • Paramita Papilio ends when its duration is over or Hu Tao has left the battlefield or fallen.
• Elemental Blast: Spirit Lollipop
  • Commands Blazing Spirits to attack, dealing Pyro damage in a large area.
  • When hitting the enemy, regenerates a percentage of Hu Tao's max HP. This effect can be triggered up to 5 times, depending on the number of enemies hit.
  • If Hu Tao's HP is 50% or less when the enemy is hit, damage and HP regeneration are increased.

Hu Tao's Passive Skills

• Chrysalis stage
  • When Paramita Papilio's state activated by Guide to Afterlife is over, all allies in the party (except Hu Tao herself) will have their crit rate increased by 12% for 8s.
• Boil the blood
  • When Hu Tao's HP is 50% or less, his Pyro damage bonus is increased by 25%.
• More the merrier, the merrier
  • When Hu Tao cooks a dish perfectly, she has an 18% chance of receiving an additional "suspicious" dish of the same type.

  • In the Paramita Papilio state activated by Guide to Afterlife, Hu Tao's charge attacks do not consume stamina.
• Bad omen
  • Increases Blood Blossom damage by an amount equal to 4% of Hu Tao's Max HP at the time the effect is applied. Additionally, Spirit Soother will also apply the Blood Blossom effect.
• Bloodletting ritual
  • Increases the level of Guide to the Beyond by 3. The maximum upgrade level is 15.
• Garden of Eternal Rest
  • After defeating an enemy affected by Blood Blossom that Hu Tao applies herself, all nearby allies in the party (except Hu Tao herself) will have their Crit Rate increased by 12% for 15s.

  • Increases Spirit Soother's level by 3. Max upgrade level is 15.
• The Butterfly's Embrace
  • Triggers when Hu Tao's HP drops below 25%, or when she suffers a Mortal Strike:
    • Hu Tao will not fall due to the damage suffered. Instead, all of his elemental and physical resistance are increased by 200%, and his crit rate is increased by 100% for 10s.
    • This effect triggers automatically when Hu Tao still has 1 HP.
    • Can only occur once every 60 seconds.
