Finally, Fortnite returns.
The Fortnite app has been absent from Apple's App Store since 2020, when Epic Games "took a stand" against the tech giant for making unreasonable cuts to app revenue from in-game purchases. While the major lawsuit has finally been put to bed, fortnite is still unable to be listed on the app store, causing many mobile gamers to be out of luck when it comes to to play their favorite battle royale.
Luckily for fans, Microsoft has introduced a new way to play fortnite on mobile devices that completely circumvents the issues with Apple's lack of supported apps. Plus, since the game is free, fans don't need to spend money on an Xbox Live or Xbox Game Pass membership if they haven't already paid for it.
How to Play Fortnite on iPhone and iPad
To play fortnite on mobile devices, users will access Xbox Cloud Gaming (aka xCloud before it was renamed.) Follow the steps below to access the game and start earning Victory Royales.
- Open the Safari app (although many prefer other browsers, using Safari is required for this guide) and navigate to Xbox.com/play.
- Select the share button (represented by an arrow pointing up and coming out of a square) next to the search bar. Next, scroll down to the bottom of the contextual tab and select “Add to Home Screen”.
- Select “Add”. This will have created an app on your home screen that will take you directly to the Xbox Cloud Gaming page.
- Exit your home screen, then select the newly created “Cloud Gaming” app.
- Sign in to your Microsoft account by selecting "Sign in."
- Once logged in, you can search fortnite in the search bar, or search by scrolling through the list of available games.
- Select “Play” and you will be able to access the game without needing an official Fortnite app.
